I do not know if any other companies are using super multi-coatings. If this were true I'd have to sell almost all my lenses.Īs to coatings probably the best are Hoya Super HMC filters. If quality Japanese filters aren't good enough then it follows that quality Japanese lenses aren t either.

Some of our lenses are assembled in China of components made in Japan and on and on.
#Nikon lens filters review license
There are "German" lenses made under license in Canada, Japan and elsewhere and most of us use Japanese lenses.

I've never seen any evidence that German filters are better than Japanese filters. Check the filter for sharpness before using palm pressue! I once cut my hand on a cheap stepping ring. There are filter wrenches and one of their primary features is they grip and press inwards for all but 360 degrees so they do not deform a filter ring. If you press with a cupped palm of the hand even cinched filters will come free. A filter that is really not too tight can bind tight just by squeezing inwards too much. What I found is squeezing inwards binds an aluminum filter ring. Prestige German brands use brass so avoid them.īrass mounts are less likely to bind but I've never had a filter stuck on a lens such that I could not eventually get it off. Brass is more likely to transfer impact to a lens were aluminum is more likely to deform and protect the lens. Some companies make their filter mounts from aluminum, some from brass. They also make filters for other companies. Hoya makes a lot of glass for a lot of companies.

For this reason most of my other filters are Hoya HMC. Last I knew most Nikon filters are single coated. I also use the old and mid-style Nikon polarizing filters. I use the Nikon 元7c filters as my standard filter.
